In Reply: Dr Finucane raises important clinical questions based on our recent review of multiple myeloma precursor disease. In the article, we discuss the risk factors for progression and guidelines for monitoring and management of MGUS and smoldering myeloma developed by the 2010 International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG)1 with the goal of preventing serious myeloma-related complications through clinical follow-up.
