The 15 participants in this symposium came from France, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Six of the 13 chapters are primarily clinical in nature; the rest deal with some recent experimental developments. At the end of each chapter a verbatim discussion is presented.

An outstanding chapter on surgical treatment of full-thickness burns was written by Tord Skoog of Sweden. This 38-page thesis is a condensation of his longer monograph and subsequent book on burns, published in 1963. Photographs of patients before, during, and after operative procedures complement the text and attest to the skill of this meticulous surgeon. His methodical approach to the problems of attaining earliest possible closure of burn wounds by skin grafting deserves detailed attention. This chapter also presents reconstructive procedures for correction of late deformities.
