To the Editor:—
Your editorial of Feb 8, 1965, "How Many Angels on the Point of a Pin," (JAMA191: 493-494) reminds me of a verse by the English neurologist, Lord Russel Brain. It was elegantly printed in a collection of his poetry entitled Poems and Verses in a small edition of 100 copies by the wellknown English printer Will Carter at his Rampant Lions Press, in 1961.It is as follows:
The old divines, when tired of reckoning sin. Counted the angels standing on a pin. The modern woman with her high-heeled shoe Shows us an angel balancing on two.
