In presenting this 65th Annual Report on Medical Education, the Council on Medical Education is pleased to express appreciation to the individual medical schools, the Association of American Medical Colleges, governmental agencies and others who provided information important in the preparation of the report. The statistical data were collected for the most part from medical schools through a questionnaire prepared jointly by the staffs of the Council on Medical Education and the Association of American Medical Colleges.

The major portion of this report presents information related to medical schools, their faculties and students. Other portions of the report present data pertinent to graduate medical education, continuing medical education, educational programs in the areas allied to medicine, and programs of government agencies pertinent to medical education.

For the first time, the report has been divided into six "Sections" and the statistical tables and figures numbered individually for each of these sections.
