Duration Of Pregnancy Compared  Negro mothers appear to deliver their infants some 8.5 days earlier than white women matched for socio-economic and other factors, University of Maryland investigators report.The average gestation differences between 6,250 Negroes and 911 Caucasians remained the same regardless of economic or educational status, smoking habits, age, parity, or weight and sex of infants. Estimated duration of pregnancy was 263.5 days for Negro and 272.1 days for Caucasian, Maureen Henderson, MD, and Joyce Kay, MD, of Maryland's department of preventive medicine and rehabilitation, told the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine.

American Life Span  The average American's life span remained at 70.2 years in 1965, the same as the previous year. Sixteen years ago, the life span was 68.2 years, up more than five years from the 1940 level.
