Fundamentals of Gynecology, now after seven years in its second edition, is the product of two senior members of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Michigan. The volume is a systematic basic review of the major concerns of gynecology, for the most part presented clearly and attractively. The illustrations are well done and illuminate the text. Particularly outstanding are the photomicrographs with diagrammatic abstractions of their significant features laid out, to scale, immediately adjacent. This is a splendid technique for the elucidation of microscopical pathology and it is very well used.

The authors do not make lengthy expositions of controversial matters but state the established practice of their own institution. This produces a good text for students and young house officers but not one which can be used as a work of reference by specialists or men in advanced training.
