Abstract

This new work presents some decidedly novel features, and in so far as one may judge from an inspection of the first volume, is destined to become a popular treatise. About one-third of volume 1 is devoted to general considerations respecting materia medica, pharmacy, pharmacology and therapeutics. The chapters on pharmacy and pharmacology are much more complete than those usually found in works of this character, and indeed we observe a growing tendency to instruct the profession much more fully on this subject than was formerly the case. In connection with the subject of general therapeutics, a convenient dietary for the sick is given.

The remaining two-thirds of the volume is occupied with a discussion of remedies and remedial agents used in the treatment of disease, but not properly classed with drugs. These are subjects which very properly occupy a place in works on materia medica, but unfortunately they
