Improving efforts to combat Medicare health care fraud was the focus of a February 23 hearing before the Subcommittee on Oversight of the House Committee on Ways and Means.
In providing background to the hearing, Subcommittee Chairman Charles W. Boustany Jr, MD (R, La), said the Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates that between 3% and 10% of health care spending is fraudulent and that $80 billion of this fraud occurs in the federal health care programs.
