Incorrect Description of Figure

JAMA. 1998;279(16):1264. doi:10.1001/jama.279.16.1264

In The Rational Clinical Examination entitled "Is This Patient Pregnant? Can You Reliably Rule In or Rule Out Early Pregnancy by Clinical Examination?" published in the August 20, 1997, issue of THE JOURNAL (1997;278:586-591), a discrepancy occurred between Figure 1 and the text. Figure 1 shows an anteverted uterus with the intravaginal examining hand in the anterior vaginal fornix and the abdominal hand pressing behind the fundus at the lower uterine segment. The text, however, describes the appropriate examining technique for a retroverted uterus, in which case the examiner would place 2 fingers in the posterior vaginal fornix.
