Notice of Triplicate Publication. The Research Letter, "Streptococcus Equinus
Endocarditis in a Woman With Pulmonary Histiocytosis," by L. A. Sechi, MD,
and R. Ciani, MD, published in the February 23, 2000, issue of THE JOURNAL,1 is virtually identical to a case report by the same authors
published in the Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 19992 and to a letter to the editor by the same authors
published in The American Journal of Medicine, 2000.3
The author had sent a signed statement of authorship responsibility
to the editors of THE JOURNAL stating that their manuscript had not been published
and was not under consideration for publication elsewhere. They also signed
a document that transferred all copyright ownership to the publisher. Well
before publication, Drs Sechi and Ciani received a letter of acceptance from
THE JOURNAL reminding them of our policy on duplicate publication.
