Omission of a Definition

JAMA. 2017;317(8):858. doi:10.1001/jama.2017.0268

In the Original Investigation entitled “Effect of Postextubation High-Flow Nasal Cannula vs Noninvasive Ventilation on Reintubation and Postextubation Respiratory Failure in High-Risk Patients: A Randomized Clinical Trial”1 published in the October 5, 2016, issue of JAMA, a definition of postextubation respiratory failure was omitted. In the Outcomes section of the Methods section, the additional definition “inability to remove respiratory secretions” should have been included in the list defining postextubation respiratory failure. This article was corrected online.
