Data Error in: Improving the Supply of Donor Organs: Being Careful With the Gift of Life

JAMA. 2011;305(5):470. doi:10.1001/jama.2011.81

Data Error: In the Editorial entitled “Improving the Supply of Donor Organs: Being Careful With the Gift of Life,” published in the December 15, 2010, issue of JAMA (2010;304[23]:2643-2644), the number 173 refers to the total number of possible donors. On the second page, in the penultimate paragraph, the second sentence should be “Furthermore, the number of optimal organ DCDD (defined as donation of >1 optimal organ) would only provide 69 more donors (10.1%) than the number of donors identified after neurological determination of death and 104 more suboptimal donors (15.2%) (defined as ineligible to donate optimal organs, but eligible to donate >1 suboptimal organs) for a total of 173 more optimal and suboptimal donors (25.3%).” This article was corrected online.
