JAMA. 2013;309(18):1903-1911. doi:10.1001/jama.2013.4598

In a randomized clinical trial of 1902 patients receiving implantable cardioverterdefibrillators, Gasparini and coauthors evaluated using a long detection vs standard detection interval during spontaneous ventricular tachyarrhythmias to reduce antitachycardia pacing and shock delivery.

Identification of Genetic Loci Associated With Helicobacter pylori Serologic Status

Abstract Full Text

JAMA. 2013;309(18):1912-1920. doi:10.1001/jama.2013.4350

To identify genetic loci associated with H pylori seroprevalence and determine the pathophysiological role of these loci, Mayerle and coauthors performed a metaanalysis of genome-wide association studies conducted in population-based cohorts, with subsequent whole-blood transcriptome analyses conducted in independent cohorts from the same populations. El-Omar provides comment in the related Editorial.

JAMA. 2013;309(18):1921-1929. doi:10.1001/jama.2013.4208

Mitsnefes and coauthors investigated the change in mortality rates over time among children and adolescents with end-stage kidney disease who initiated treatment with dialysis between 1990 and 2010. Using data from the United States Renal Data System, they performed a retrospective cohort study involving 23 401 individuals who initiated treatment at younger than 21 years.
