This book gives a background on immunomodulatory and cytotoxic agents in dermatology, with a particular emphasis on cytotoxic agents and newer immunomodulatory agents that should be part of the therapeutic armamentarium of medically oriented dermatologists. The first half of the book covers therapeutic agents in detail in terms of their pharmacology, clinical indications, and adverse reactions. The second half of the book reviews the approach to dermatologic diseases that require systemic therapy. These include bullous diseases, connective tissue and autoimmune rheumatic diseases, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, vasculitis, Kaposi sarcoma, malignant melanoma, viral infections, ichthyosis, and a number of inflammatory skin diseases. The indications for more aggressive therapy are reviewed, as well as potential toxic effects and suggested monitoring of the patient undergoing systemic treatment. A perspective about newer therapies and investigational therapies is often included.
