Apligraf is an exciting bioengineered product. It is a bilayered skin construct that looks and feels like human skin and is probably the most complex organ system developed in the laboratory. Apligraf is a living product: if you mesh it, it will heal. Its importance and therapeutic potential go beyond wound healing. Epstein's letter to the editor gives us an opportunity to answer some questions about our study.1
