When I mentioned the idea of writing about the role of noninvasive dermatologists in the future, 2 of the dermatology residents at my hospital exclaimed that it would be a short article! I suppose this reflects their youthful enthusiasm for the quick fix feedback of performing dermatologic surgical and cosmetic techniques and not (surely not) their disdain for medical dermatology. As the other "-ologies" (eg, cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, and radiology) have differentiated into invasive and noninvasive subsets, in the last 2 decades dermatologists have also segmented their skills and practices. What is the future of the rash doctor (the noninvasive dermatologist)?
