Instances of arsenic pollution of groundwater have become worldwideissues. Since the first patient with skin disorders caused by arsenic wasfound in India in 1983, the Ganges Delta has been recognized as one of themost seriously arsenic-contaminated regions in the world. To investigate theeffects of arsenic pollution of groundwater on residents of arsenic-contaminatedareas, we examined the residents in Samta Village located in the southwestof Bangladesh, one of the most severely arsenic-polluted districts in theworld.
