Since 1967. As Chief of Dermatology for 33 years.
I spent 2 years in the Dermatology Branch at the National Institutesof Health (NIH) under Eugene Van Scott, MD. I then did residency trainingat the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston, and subsequently wasa fellow in the laboratory of Jerry Gross, MD, at the MGH. At that time, DrGross had just discovered vertebrate collagenase in the tadpole tailfin.
I heard Dr Gross give a lecture to the dermatology department at MGHand became fascinated. I was interested to determine the site of collagenaseproduction in the tadpole tail fin and also to see if a similar enzyme waspresent in human skin.
