Persistent Acne in Adult Women

Arch Dermatol. 2001;137(9):1252-1253. doi:

The characteristics and prevalence of adult acne have been defined,13 but the duration and course of treated acne in adult women have not been described. Treatment failures with systemic antibiotics occur in 80% of adult women, and recurrences after isotretinoin therapy occur in 15% to 30%.1,3 Understanding the course of acne in adult women will promote better treatments. We surveyed adult women with acne to determine persistence, treatment requirements, and exacerbating factors.
