Histological examination revealed orthokeratosis, with no epidermal or dermal abnormalities. The eccrine glands were normal in number and size.
The starch-iodine test revealed a sharply demarcated area of severe hyperhidrosis on the right forearm, without spinal or dermatomal distribution. Administration of topical 20% aluminum chloride hexahydrate in absolute alcohol once a day resulted in a marked decrease in the frequency of attacks. Maintenance therapy consisted of 1 application of the solution weekly, with a relapse rate of 2 to 3 attacks per week.
