Alitretinoin topical gel (Panretin gel; Ligand Pharmaceuticals Inc, San Diego, Calif) is effective and well tolerated for the treatment of cutaneous lesions in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome–related Kaposi sarcoma (KS),14 offering patients a self-administered, noninvasive, topical alternative treatment. To my knowledge, effective treatment of classic KS with this formulation has not been described.
