The objective of this article was to estimate the cost of atopic dermatitis. Emerson et al restricted their cross-sectional survey to children younger than 5 years and itemized the costs to families, the health service, and the state. A postal questionnaire was sent to all parents of children aged 1 to 5 years who were registered with 4 general practices in the Nottingham, England, area to identify those with atopic dermatitis. A second questionnaire was sent to families of affected children to determine their utilization of medical services and the financial costs.
