By acid orcein staining of thick sections of skin, the elastic fibers may be visualized in three dimensions enabling one to discern the distribution and general pattern of the elastic network. A truer picture of the elastic architecture is thus obtainable. This modification will be helpful in studying the elastic changes produced by age and disease, especially the so-called dermal elastoses.
