Appointment of Dr. Harrell.—
E. Richard Harrell, Jr., MD, professor of dermatology at the University of Michigan, was named chairman of the Medical School's dermatology department on Friday, April 21.He will succeed Dr. Arthur C. Curtis, who is retiring July 1 after 21 years as head of the department. The Regents' action, recommended by Dean William N. Hubbard, Jr., of the Medical School, followed a nationwide search by a faculty committee to recommend a successor to Dr. Curtis.In his recommendation, Dean Hubbard cited the unusual enthusiasm of the faculty's endorsement, and added his own "expression of confidence in Dr. Harrell's future" as chairman, expressing "a particular satisfaction in seeing one of the trainees of Dr. Arthur C. Curtis chosen from the nation at large."Dr. Harrell has served the University of Michigan Medical School staff since 1949, when he was appointed assistant resident in dermatology. He was named
