In this textbook Dr. Pierre Harter has put to work his outstanding knowledge as a dermatologist and his wide experience as a leprologist to document the principal variations shown by leprosy patients in varying geographical areas and of different races. He has treated the entire subject of leprosy, subdividing its different aspects into 18 chapters. These cover the history of the disease, its bacteriology, epidemiology, immunology, classification, cutaneous, nervous, bone and joint, and visceral manifestations, evolution, lepra reaction, laboratory tests, treatment, etc.
Dr. Harter has particularly stressed the clinical symptoms and laboratory technique with the idea of giving more help to the isolated practitioner who is far removed from a medical center. There are 74 excellent black-and-white clinical photographs and 1 in color. The chapter on treatment presents a critical evaluation of existing methods.
There is one new and very interesting chapter: a list of the most important leprosy centers
