To the Editor.—
The editorial board of the Archives reviewed a manuscript entitled "A new approach to the reduction of sebum secretion" in February 1970. This work was based on a communication given on Jan 30, 1970, at the South Central Dermatolological Society Meeting in San Antonio, Tex. Unfortunately, however, due to adverse recommendations by the reviewers the paper was not accepted by the Archives. Burton and Schuster (Lancet 2:19-20 [July 4] 1970) published a preliminary communication based on the study of five patients entitled "Effect of L-DOPA on seborrhea of parkinsonism." They used a simplified protocol to our own and confirmed our original findings of the striking reduction of sebum secretion in nine patients after L-DOPA therapy. While our own interpretation of these results is at variance with those given by Burton and Schuster, we nevertheless are happy to inform you of this confirmatory evidence by a distinguished authority
