Abstract

Microscopic study of a pigmented lesion appearing at the site of an incompletely removed balloon cell nevus revealed a combined mole with an active junctional component and without evidence of remaining balloon cells. This behavior lends credence to the theory that the balloon cell is a form of dermal nevus cell, conceivably a precursor.
