This is the second edition of this monograph and is now coauthored by another distinguished leprologist, Paul Fasal. The first edition was published in 1953, and this new edition brings us up to date on all the new therapeutic advances of the last 20 years.
The offical international classification is given adequately, differential diagnosis is discussed in detail, bacterial and morphologic indexes are defined, and the practical application of these are mentioned. The main histologic features of the various forms of leprosy are discussed at length and illustrated with photomicrographs.
The chapter on chemotherapy of all phases of leprosy including the lepra reaction is excellent, although the multiple aspects of rehabilitation and corrective surgery are beyond the scope of this manual.
From an editor's viewpoint, all is excellent: the book reads easily and understandably, the black and white figures are superb, and the color plates adequate.
