Abstract

This is a magnificent effort. Those of us who remember with joy and gratitude the original book by W. Noel Goldsmith and who found good use for the second volume by Goldsmith and F. F. Hellier will open this third member of the series with some doubts and an "I'm from Missouri— show me" attitude.

As the editor, Arthur Rook questions: Is it possible in 1973 to compile the recent advances in dermatology with as great a success as was done in 1936? Will not the mass and the growth rate of information newly acquired in the past decade make the task impossible? Moreover, is such a compilation needed today when there is such a plethora of published monographs, proceedings of societies, and symposia dealing with special fields?
