To the Editor.—
Aminocaproic acid (EACA), a six carbon aliphatic carboxylic acid with a terminal amino group, has been reported to be effective in the treatment of eczema and other allergic diseases of the skin by Yokoyama and Hatano (Keio Med J 8:303, 1959). The drug has also been shown by Miller to modify the skin response to purified protein derivative of tuberculin and streptokinase-streptodornase (Exp Med Surg 29:132, 1971). Opportunity to treat a patient with severe exfoliative dermatitis, resistant to many other forms of therapy, offered a challenge to treatment with EACA.
Report of a Case.—
A 54-year-old white man was admitted to the hospital with a generalized exfoliative dermatitis of ten weeks duration. An erythematous, thickened skin covered the entire body.
