Professor Steigleder, director of the dermatology clinic of the University of Cologne, West Germany, has prepared a condensed, precise, up-to-date text on dermatology and venerology that includes a short review of proctology and andrology. In Germany the latter two subjects are considered part of the field of dermatology.
The manifold diseases of the skin and the venereal diseases are clearly described as to their clinical picture, etiology, differential diagnosis, and therapy. Although the remarks on therapy are not always detailed, they are highly informative and contemporary. A good feature is a short summary at the end of each chapter. There is a helpful subject index and a literature list of essential German textbooks and monographs, as well as three important English language books—one edited by Fitzpatrick and the other edited by Rook, Wilkinson, and Ebling, and Fisher's book on contact dermatitis.
