The third edition of Medical Mycology by Emmons et al continues in the scholarly approach of the first editions and adds to the previous volumes. Not only is there an increase in pages but there are also additional illustrations and figures. The index is complete, cross-referenced, and easy to use. A substantial bibliography follows each chapter. The color plates are beautiful and one only wishes there were more of them. A new chapter on common contaminants, with clear illustrations, should prove useful to most medical mycology laboratories. An entire chapter has been devoted to phaeomycotic cysts, a poorly understood clinical entity to many workers in this discipline. The added table on "serologic, immunologic and skin tests in mycoses" summarizes nicely the available tests and indicates their usefulness. The additional information on new modalities of therapy for the mycoses is surely essential to all specialists in this field. In summary, this
