Abstract

Why do we need another book with the title "Contact Dermatitis?" Aren't the contributions of S. Fregert and A. A. Fisher sufficient?

Book learning in this field can be done in three phases. Start with the succinct and meticulous Fregert (most residents can read it in a few nights). Next, read Fisher. This spirited book tells you how it is in the real world of medical care, ie, office management. Then, read Cronin. Here, at last we have the equivalent of "Dermatology"—an encyclopedic, clinically oriented, 915-page reference text.

Cronin draws on a vast personal computer—she summarizes the data from the Contact Clinic at St Johns Hospital, London, in a highly meaningful fashion. She reviews all of the literature from all languages (no reference seems to be too obscure or difficult for her). She publishes for the first time much useful data from the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group.
