How does one keep up with the current medical literature these days? Beside the American publications, there are excellent journals from Great Britain, Germany, Scandinavia, France, Japan, and elsewhere. In addition, there are articles on skin disease in nondermatologic journals published both in the United States and other countries. It would be difficult to collect all the dermatologic articles, much less read them.
Fortunately for us, again, in 1981, Drs Dobson and Thiers have collected, read, and summarized these articles. The Year Book is not the complete assemblage of all the dermatologic literature of the year, but it is an assortment of many and a treasury of the most important.
After a spasmodic era of changing sizes and colors, the Year Book has settled down into a stately, plain gray volume. I hope it will stay that way until it is inevitably replaced by small discs of data retrieval systems.
