Abstract

In Reply.—  I was most distressed to read the letter from Dr Fenske pointing out the obvious duplication of reporting the same unusual case of arthritis mutilans in a patient with severe pustular psoriasis. I have carefully reviewed the notes we made while preparing this case report in an attempt to discover why this duplication occurred. We searched Index Medicus personally under the headings of acrodermatitis and psoriasis and used a computerized literature search through our medical library for a similar case of severe distal osteolysis, arthritis mutilans, and digit resorption with pustular psoriasis, but did not find the case report by McDonald and Lowe. Admittedly, we did not review multiple volumes of the Archives of Dermatology for case reports that might not have been recorded in Index Medicus.
