To the Editor.—
In their editorial in the September 1983 Archives, Anhalt et al1 credit Lever2 as the first to give pemphigus vulgaris a precise, histologic definition. Their statement was not correct, as Civatte3 was the first to define the disorder. Lever4 himself freely acknowledged Civatte's earlier contribution.
