Abstract

The classic monograph Appendage Tumors of the Skin was published in 1968. Some 19 years later, again with Dr Hashimoto as first author, it has undergone a delightful metamorphosis into Tumors of Skin Appendages. This updated slim volume, part of the Practical Dermatopathology series (Butterworths), contains a surprising amount of information, logically organized and very accessible. There are seven chapters: "Histogenesis of Adnexal Tumors," "Eccrine Gland Tumors," "Hair Follicle Tumors," "Sebaceous Gland Tumors," "Apocrine Tumors," "Diagnostic and Therapeutic Considerations in Patients With Skin Appendage Tumors," and "Adnexal Tumors in Systemic Diseases." Each entity within a chapter includes a clinical description, histopathologic description and, where known, information pertaining to histochemistry, electron microscopy, and immunocytochemistry. The illustrations include clinical photographs of the tumors in situ as well as abundant photomicrographs of histopathologic sections.
