THE ANNUAL trainee award was established 9 years ago to encourage and recognize the research efforts of residents and fellows in dermatology. To be eligible, the trainee must have prepared the original manuscript while in training and must be the first author of the article.
Among the authors of the articles published in 1994, 24 individuals were found to meet these eligibility requirements. The committee that was given the difficult task of determining this year's awardee consisted of Lawrence S. Chan, MD, Jo-David Fine, MD, Guy F. Webster, MD, and Mary L. Williams, MD. The results of the judging determined the winner to be Nouha DomlogeHultsch, MD, for her work on the immunologic identification of a subtype of cicatricial pemphigoid.1
Dr Domloge-Hultsch was born and raised in Syria, where she also received her MD degree. She subsequently obtained her dermatology training with Professor J. Civatte in the Department of
