Facial plastic surgery in Asia is built on the same scientific foundations as the specialty in North America. Many of the professors and leaders from diverse Asian countries look to the United States in particular for training. In turn, there have been advances in Asia that can benefit patients elsewhere in the world. Reconstructive surgery is similar around the globe. Aesthetic surgery tends to reflect the ethnic and cultural ideals of its particular patient population. This theme issue for facial plastic surgery presents a selection of some of the most creative work from these countries. One is immediately struck by the large numbers of patients in many of these studies and the quality of the outcomes.
