In this issue of JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, Kiyohara and colleagues1 present a systematic review comparing currently available over-the-counter mechanical nasal dilators. Most of these devices are designed to temporarily facilitate inspiratory breathing by reducing transnasal resistance and improving inspiratory airflow in healthy individuals and in patients with nasal congestion. In their review, the authors focus on articles that describe effects in healthy individuals to compare product efficacy and include comparative cost information as well.
