The surgical discipline of facial plastic surgery and the specific entity of the facial plastic surgeon are well established in the United States. A large number of excellently trained surgeons are now practicing these particular skills to a high standard. Three decades of drive and industry by dedicated members of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) have led to this situation. The commitment to teaching and training resulted in many instructional courses being held every year. These courses allied to postgraduate fellowship programs along with the availability of an extensive video-teaching library were other factors leading to better and more highly trained surgeons.
