Arch Facial Plast Surg. 2001;3(2):141. doi:

By your scars you will be judged—G. M. FitzGibbon, The Commandments of Gillies, 1968

ALBERTO F. Borges, MD, a genuinely original thinker in the field of facial plastic surgery, is best known for his innumerable contributions in the literature pertaining to scar revision, especially the "running W-plasty." His textbook titled Elective Incisions and Scar Revision1 forms the foundation for modern approaches to revision of functionally or aesthetically displeasing scars. He is probably best known for naming the "relaxed skin tension lines" inherent in skin2 and explaining for the surgeon the real significance of these lines, whose existence had been known since Baron Guillaume Dupuytren in 1834.
