Three-Dimensional Photography and Its Application to Facial Plastic Surgery

Photography is integral to the practice of facial plastic surgery. We describe a new 3-D photography system, the 3dMDface System (3dMD, Atlanta, Ga), which provides a high-resolution 3-D image that can be viewed from any angle; has the ability to accurately measure surface distance, area, and volume; and performs profile adjustments that can be viewed in 3 dimensions. We describe specific applications of this system to facial plastic surgery, namely, to that of the aging face.
