William Cumming's Family Stroll

Arch Facial Plast Surg. 2006;8(1):76. doi:10.1001/archfaci.8.1.76

Bill Cumming was born in Montana in 1917 and moved to the Northwest as a child. He is a self-taught artist who, at the age of 20 years, met artist Morris Graves and became a member of the Northwest School of Painters, which included Guy Anderson and Kenneth Callahan and Margaret Callahan, among others. Cumming favors water-based media, such as tem pera or gouache. He first paints the solid colors and then adds patterns. The bold figures of Family Stroll were painted in 2002. The artist, at 88 years of age, has just opened a major museum show at the Frye Museum in Seattle, Wash, and is represented by the Gordon Woodside–John Braseth Gallery, Seattle.Article
