We believe that Stein's main criticism of our article relates to the use of the adjective thorough in the "Conclusion" section. We disagree with Stein that this adjective is inflammatory, which was not our intended meaning; according to Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Ninth Edition, thorough means complete in all respects.
The National Asthma Education Program guidelines, which were developed by an expert panel, represent basic recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of asthma. The main objective of our study was to ascertain the level of compliance with these guidelines. Of course, physicians and patients need to develop individual treatment plans tailored to the needs of the patients.
