ABIM strongly encourages all certified physicians to maintain their certification, including physicians certified prior to 1990 because research has shown skills and knowledge deteriorate over time.1 Maintenance of Certification is required of all members of ABIM boards and test committees, including “grandfathers” who certified prior to 1990.
