My colleagues and I respectfully disagree with Drs Brindis and Sacco, who claim that “for decades” the ACC and AHA have “enforced strict policies for preventing undue influence of industry.” The article by Mendelson et al1 directly challenges this assertion. More than half of all recent guideline writers have direct financial ties with industry, including an astonishing 81% of guideline committee chairs.
