Amoxicillin Can Induce Aseptic Meningitis

Arch Intern Med. 1999;159(22):2745. doi:

We have read with great interest the review of Moris and Garcia-Monco1 on the challenge of drug-induced aseptic meningitis. We would like to point out another antibiotic drug, amoxicillin, that is not listed in this review. Amoxicillin, a commonly used antibiotic, can induce aseptic meningitis, as we reported this year in the British Medical Journal.2 We think our well-documented study is a valuable addition to the drug list in the review.
