Anticoagulation With Prosthetic Cardiac Valves

Arch Intern Med. 2003;163(18):2251-2252. doi:10.1001/archinte.163.18.2251

We, members of the Anticoagulation in Prosthetic Valves and Pregnancy Consensus Report (APPCR) Panel, would like to respond to the article by Ginsberg et al1 in the ARCHIVES. The article identified the need for further work in this area of our study, and, specifically, for assembly of a consensus conference of experts to analyze the available evidence and chart directions for future research in this arena. The purpose of this letter is to make members of the medical community aware that a multidisciplinary consensus conference on this topic was convened, and to present a summary of its findings and recommendations as they relate to anticoagulation in pregnant patients with heart valves.
