In reply to Mr Chopra's comment, I misspoke in the article and should have specified botanical dietary supplements or herbal supplements for that particular number. "Herbal" supplements represent 25% of the total dietary supplement market in the United States, and Echinacea sales represented 10% of that market in 1998, with a slight decline over the last 5 years. This information comes from the American Botanical Council1 and from the Nutrition Business Journal.
